Hello, I’m Ian Pinnell, an experienced award winning marketer and media creative from the UK.
My interest in the media stemmed from a young age and I began volunteering for my local hospital radio station, Radio Cherwell in 2006. In 2014, I was named Male Presenter of the Year at the National Hospital Radio Awards and I’ve interviewed the likes of former UK Prime Minister David Cameron and sportsman Sir Roger Bannister.
My marketing experience and interests came during my Radio Production course at the University of Gloucestershire. Although primarily a course about Radio, there was lots of marketing opportunities to be had, including marketing shows on the student radio station, Tone Radio, as well as various pop-up stations the University ran, including Wychwood 87.7 FM and Jazz Town FM for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
My skills range from traditional print to digital and social media. I’ve worked on national marketing projects using both traditional and print media for a national charity I’m involved with. These have included the design and production of printed material, planning campaigns from beginning and seeing them through to the end, including the post campaign analysis.
I currently serve as the Hospital Broadcasting Association’s Communication Executive, a national charity that oversees over 200 hospital radio stations across the country. I lead on national campaigns and the overall communications strategy for the organisation. This role involves everything from PR, communications, graphic design, social media, marketing and more. I’m also a Trustee of the organisation.
On a local level, you’ll find me both behind the microphone and creative at Radio Cherwell. I host a variety of shows on the station and work on the stations publicity and marketing, both externally to the community and hospital as well as internally to our members.
I ran my own business for a time, where I produced audio and radio ads for a variety of clients. My work has been heard on radio stations including Heart, OX105 and BBC Radio Gloucestershire, whilst I’ve produced material for exam board AQA and publishers Pearson.
You’ll find me blogging about aspects of the media, sharing my thoughts on marketing as well as my own news every now and again.
If you’d like some advice on either marketing; broadcast or anything else, or you’re looking for someone to work with you on your next project, just drop me a line.
